Barbara Wasserman cannot recall a time when she was not creating. Her formal education began at the age of 9 when she attended Saturday morning classes for children at Pratt University in Brooklyn, N.Y. Before she finished college her work was already getting accepted in various juried shows around N.Y.C. The first juror to recognize this talented young artist was Milton Avery at the N.Y. City Center Gallery. She left N.Y. in her twenties to live in Mexico City. She spent almost 20 years there from the late 50’s to the late 70’s. She became part of the Mexican art scene and was one of the artists included in The University Of Austin, Texas permanent collection entitled “Image of Mexico II". Other museums that have her work are The Ft.Lauderdale Museum Of Art , The Boca Raton Museum Of Art, and The Fine Art Museum of Ashville, North Carolina. Included in the many gallery shows she has had are The Alan Stone Gallery in N.Y.C., The Misrachi Gallery in Mexico City, and The Camino Real Gallery in Boca Raton. Some of the notable people who have purchased her work are: Singer, Vicky Carr, Producer, Fred Zimmerman, and one of the past Presidents of Mexico, Lopez Portillo. She currently, calls Boca Raton, Florida home, and was recently married there. She also teaches art classes one day per week at The Boca Raton Museum Of Art. She took part in a group show at The Jewish Museum Of Florida in Miami during Art Basel. While in Mexico, she was invited to do scenery and costumes for a dance group that was part of The University Of Mexico City. The group was called, “ Taller De (Coreografica) De Gloria Contreras Del U.N.A.M". She went on to design costumes and scenery for 3 other pieces.
